Candice’s Family Portraits in Madison

Candice graduated from UW Madison Engineering Department.  She and her family came to James Studio for family portraits.   Her parents and grandparents travelled all the way from Taiwan to be an integral part of Candice’s graduation.

Candice arranged the photo session a week  ahead.  She came with her mother a few days prior to meet me and see what backgrounds were available.  We discussed clothing, sets, backgrounds, and time.  She provided a check in order to confirm the shoot.   We also discussed shooting at Memorial Union or a park, but the weather was not the best and their time was limited.  So the shoot was done in the studio.

The family shoot included three brothers.  One of the brothers had a girlfriend who was also a part of the shoot.  Everyone had a great time.  In addition to the large group portrait, we broke the group down into smaller groups with parents, brothers, grandparents, couples, and individual shots, too.

Since the extended family was together, it was a perfect time to get professional portraits.   James Studio is less than a mile from the campus and offers excellent pricing.   The shoot was set up for an hour, but everyone was enjoying the time so much it went on for 90 minutes or more at no additional cost to them.   I offered Candice $159 for a one-hour session, plus I included two high-definition digital files with permission to print.    This is a great deal.  If you are looking for professional photography for your family, call Jim at James Studio.   You will receive a personally crafted, enjoyable experience with beautiful photographs to enjoy forever.

During the shoot I took about 180 photos.  Below is a video I put together using just 22 photos.  Enjoy the clip.  If you have a high speed connection to the internet be sure to click on the HD icon for a better image of the video.

The following is a traditional group portrait.  Compare it to the next image.

The following is a composite of three images.  This image also had the background modified in Photoshop.

The following is Candice with her three brothers.  They made for a nice triangular shape in this shot.

Candice 3 Candices Family Portraits in Madison

This is a composite of two shots.   It was hard to get the hat in the right spot and get good expressions at the same time so I fixed it in post.   It became my favorite image of the entire shoot.

Here is Candice with her lovely mother.

Her father is showing some personality in this shot.

Candice’s grandparents do not understand very much English but with lots of hand motions and commotion from the photographer I was able to get some nice expression.

Toward the end I wanted Candice to give me several fashion looks.  This was one of them that is fun.

Baby Kylie

Kylie and her parents came for some family photos.  Here are a few of the pictures that I took.

Baby 3 Baby Kylie

Dan enjoys a moment with Kylie.

Baby 4 Baby Kylie

I think Katie looks gorgeous in this image.  I knew Katie since she was a small child.  Her parents are good friends of ours.

Baby 5 Baby Kylie

I have a new set at the studio using window light.  I was eager to give it a try.

Baby 6 Baby Kylie

I have a special affect that I put on many of my photos.  I love how it turned out on this one.

Baby 8 Baby Kylie

Kylie took an immediate liking to the rocking chair.   She found that she could rock and was quite definate about perfecting her new skill.

Here she is looking out the big studio windows.  Something out there was of great interest.

Baby 9 Baby Kylie

I was just adding a little something to show off her great expression.

Though I did add saturation to the picture, I did not add color to her eyes .  I love the look.

Deforest Family Portraits and Marketer

If you are interested in photography or videography, you might be hearing from Vicki Stagliano.  She is my new marketing person!  She is ready to meet you and introduce you to my style and product line.  So let me introduce you to Vicki and her family.  One of the things that attracted me to Vicki, besides her organizational prowes,s is the fact that she loves people.   She enjoys communicating in a variety of ways–in person, over the phone, e mail, Facebook, or text message.   She is imaginative, creative, and is a pro at customer service.  I look forward to her work at James Studio.

Vicki Stagliano

I recently did a photography shoot with her children.  Andrew is the oldest, Nicholas is next, and Olivia is the youngest.

I met Andrew for the first time on this shoot.  He enjoys working at the Madison Airport, in one of the gift shops.   Andrew has some pretty cool blue eyes (pun intended).

Vicki did a nice job of matching the children’s outfits.  She used primarily solid colors, which is what I prefer for pictures.  Nicholas has a very active personality, which common among boys his age.  He is a cute kid, with warm greenish eyes.

Olivia is 5 years old and is super cute.  She has already started her modeling career as a real paid model.

As a photographer, I like to make people look their best.   Nobody is perfect; not even me.  Hah!   In the case of Olivia I chose to improve the appeance of her teeth.  I don’t mean just make them look whiter or fill in a tooth that might be missing; it was more than that.  If someone does not want to have a certain type of correction made, I honor that.

I have a daughter, too.  Though she is perfect to us, she does not have perfect teeth.  I touch them up in her portraits.  When people look at her portrait, they admire its beauty and do not even notice the touched up teeth.  That is what I like–it is part of my style.

I love this image below.  I think its cute.  What do you think?

VF 5 Deforest Family Portraits and Marketer

Vicki and her husband and children live in Deforest, Wisconsin with lots of open spaces.  They have a cornfield in their backyard.  I wanted the kids to run slowly and fly like an airplane.  It worked, sort of; it was a little hard for Olivia to run slowly, but I got what I needed.

Again, Vicki did a nice joy of coordinating their colors even to the point of having the same shade of blue shirts.

After so many pictures, it was time for a good pig pile and to blow off some steam.

VF 8 Deforest Family Portraits and Marketer

Then to blow off even more steam, the kids got on their two trampolines.  Now getting them to coordinate their jumps so they were all up in the air at the same time was not the easiest thing, but we did pretty good with this shot.  Andrew also got a chance to show off his flips, which was fun to see.

If you get a chance to talk to Vicki, tell her that you saw her kids’ photos.  I think she would like that.

Family Portraits

Rebekah and her children came in to the studio for family portraits on July 22, 2010.   The youngest child was a live wire at times and at other times super cute and cooperative.  With a little help from the studio toys and some patience, I got some nice photographs.  Rebekah wanted the look to be casual.  Below is a sample of our time together.

There was some Photoshop manipulation to get this picture to work.  Can you tell which person was radically changed and how?  Go to the bottom of this post to see the answer.

The studio cow made his debut in this photo.

Now when you have a kid acting this cute, you’ve just got to show it off.

Sherman Family 2 Family Portraits

Her gentle expression nicely matches her personality.

Sherman Family 4 Family Portraits

This was taken in the studio, though it may not look like it.  I wanted the look to be like a regular home rather than a studio with a backdrop.  We have many nice backgrounds, but this time I wanted to show a natural look and the family was game for the idea.

Sherman Family 1 Family Portraits

The family has quite a bit of history in countries outside the United States.   The boy’s hat illustrates their continental flair.

Sherman Family 5 Family Portraits

In the top picture of this post, the original picture of  the girl in blue was unflattering, so it was replaced with another picture.  It is not a simple cut a paste but with Photoshop it looks pretty seemless.
